Create new work items by using work item sets
Learn about the work item sets and how to use them. Having work item sets let you define a named, ordered collection of work item definitions and apply the entire collection to a project in one action. This is useful for recurring project types that require the same set of work items, ensuring consistency and saving time.

To use a set on a project
- On the Project Card page (or on the Project Plan page in case of PGS), choose the Apply Work Item Set action.
- On the Work Item Sets page, choose the set that you want to use.
- Choose the OK button.
- Based on the template and date formulas on the lines of the selected set, new work items are created for the project, dates are set based on the date formulas and some fields are filled with the information from the template, as well as the checklist lines.
Note
In case that work item template used on the work item set lines has the recurrence pattern set on it, the recurrences will not be created on the new work item until you choose the Calculate Recurrences action.To use a set on a project template (PGS)
On the Project Template Card page, on the General FastTab, in the Work Item Code field, enter the work item set that should be applied automatically when a project is created from that template.
To create a new work item set
- Choose the 🔎 icon, enter Work Item Sets, and then choose the related link.
- Choose the New action.
- In the Code field, enter the unique identifier for the work item set.
- Fill in the remaining fields on the Work Item Set page as necessary.
- On the Lines FastTab:
- Enter Work Item Template No. to define which work item template should be user for creation of the new work item
- Enter Start Date Formula to define how to calculate the Start Date of the new work item
- Enter End Date Formula to define how to calculate the End Date of the new work item
